one of the justifications for higher US health care costs, especially pharmaceuticals, is that US companies are developing expensive, world-leading treatments which benefit the entire globe. and yet, i see stories like this and wonder if the US is really all that far ahead. i also wonder how countries like Japan, with a nationalized health care service, fund and bring these treatments to patients at all.
