For language server autocompletion, install coc.nvim - https://github.com/neoclide/coc.nvim https://github.com/neoclide/coc.nvim
Then
:CocInstall coc-rls
and should work out of the box.
I also use https://github.com/w0rp/ale https://github.com/w0rp/ale to provide linting. Also works out of the box.
You can get these things running on vim8, but honestly it's easier to just use neovim.
