I'm sorry, but this is such a weak argument.
1. A "lessons learned" isn't days or weeks or months of harassment. Almost always are the punishments for the crimes grossly outsized.
2. "But no one was hanged here" can we please move beyond this adolescent measures of consequences. Losing a job, losing your social circle, being ostracized from society, and potentially dealing with threats to your person and in many cases family are absolutely devastating and life altering.
3. " We won't be missing her otherwise insightful looks into the situation in the Middle East" Yes speech should only be for the enlightened people that, let me guess, tend to 100% agree with your viewpoints on things.
At the end of the day, these toxic reactions, and counterreactions for that matter, destroy lives and imho are largely responsible for a lot of the polarization in society today. As if a person can be summed up by one or a handful of statements when you know nothing else about them and their life. It makes me sad anyone even tries to justify internet lynch mobs or worse wrap them in some halfcocked moral framework to justify their action when we all know its for that dopeamine hit or righteous indignation and patting yourself on the back for "being on the right side of history" despite 1. that target moving almost yearly and 2. that to think that you have to look past the piles of broken lives left in its wake.
