How would the team decide what to take on in a week/month/quarter? I'm a developer and I understand difficulties in estimating. I also know of poor leaders who use estimation trap to guilt developers into an impossible deadline. But this attitude is not helpful and will not fly in any good team. If you apply yourself to it consistently, estimation (with certain degree of error) is not impossible. I wrote practical tips somewhere else in this thread.
