CMake is on the rise? Anyone has an explanation for that?
Edit: I mean it's an old build system for C. Is there some new developments that would cause it to rise in popularity?
- gaius 8y agoCMake is “common make” not “C make”, it can make anything, and package it with CPack, test with CTest and so on. It’s still being developed too.
- chubot 8y agoIt seems like the most popular option for portable C and C+++ builds. It seems to have solved the nasty Windows build problem the best, as far as I can tell. Autoconf is another option, but it doesn't support windows. I think people perceive CMake is old and gross, but autoconf is older and grosser as far as I can tell. For example, LLVM now uses CMake. It used to use autoconf. I don't know of any new developments, but I think people do want to get off of autoconf.
- singularity2001 8y agoIt is becoming more popular because it is more powerful / advanced than Makefile: find_package( Readline ) include_directories( ${Readline_INCLUDE_DIR} )
