Think of an item, that you're purchased within the last couple of years, that was not made from oil but was manufactured in Russia. Ok, I wait. You can't think of any? OK, then what about from of the Arab speaking countries? Yes. I can wait. Take your time.
I hope those countries have a plan B for when the majority of the world's car run on something else than oil.

- ToFab123 8y agoYes, but that is being funded by the sale of oil to Europe . >Around 70% of Russia’s oil production is sold in Europe. Each time we fill our tanks, we are sending about €7 to Russia. This analysis details how rising oil demand in Europe has funded increases in Russian military expenditure over the last decade. https://www.transportenvironment.org/publications/how-europes-oil-addiction-funds-russian-military https://www.transportenvironment.org/publications/how-europe...
- MandieD 8y agoMakes me even happier to have sold my car last week; I’d thought about it in terms of sending less money to the House of Saud to bomb Yemeni civilians, but I’m also putting less money in Putin’s hands, along with providing slight benefits for the environment and my waistline, and a large benefit for my bank account.
- charlesdm 8y agoRussia also sells gas, on which we are quite dependant. That is not going to change any time soon.
- tonyedgecombe 8y agoOil has been a curse for much of the Arab world, they are going to go through a painful transition but it will be better for them in the long term.
- jsrn 8y agoDoes software count as an 'item' for you? If yes, for me (and I guess many others here) it would be various products of JetBrains, also Kotlin (even if I did not pay for that one directly) and OCR software from Abbyy. Also did not pay for, but use daily: nginx.
- audunw 8y agoArabs yes, but Russia? They have at least some manufacturing. My house has some insulation from Russia (although tbh, only where the quality wasn't important). Until SpaceX they manufactured (most of the?) rocket engines for the US. They're still the only ones that make rockets that can send people to the ISS. That said, they'll still be in a lot of trouble if oil/gas collapses.
- rleigh 8y agoKnowingly, some Sure anti-perspirant (solid, not spray). That's the only thing I know of, but there might be a small number of other things. Their manufacturing for export isn't large that I'm aware of, but there is some.
