A huge part of this is the general perversion of science. It starts at the bottom with the abuse of p-hacking by lowly grad students. It goes all the way to the top with fraudulent for-profit science by Big Pharma to get drugs and medical devices approved that don't work. All of it is part of the academic-medical industrial complex that views science not as process for discovering truth, but as a tool that can be used to generate profit. There are enormous breakthroughs that I know are very close, but simply inconceivable due to the academic-medical establishment that has stranglehold on science.
