The one that jumps out at me is his association with James O'Keefe (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Thiel#Support_for_political_activism https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Thiel#Support_for_politi...). That seems most salient to this story.
I won't deny that he seems to be a very skilled investor though.
