I too learned of Wain due to the alleged madness pics - I've also read (no sources handy) that the theory's been pretty hardily debunked. Found some interesting things about him, though, he organized a supper for the London Cat's Meat Men (that was an actual job in old London). I think there's actually audio or film of him as well.
