Writing is an art, even non-fiction writing, and it is the art part that I work-on and worry most about in my own writing (all of which is non-fiction). Difficult books, yes. That doesn't mean books without stylistic beauty or felicity. It doesn't mean books that have been poorly edited (IMO the largest failing in many books, which could easily be 25% shorter with better editing).
