You're restricting yourself from some opportunities by not knowing CS fundamentals. Those are very common problems in programming interviews, and in those cases you would be disqualified. If that bothers you (and the fact that you posted this question indicates to me that it does), then I would recommend taking the opportunity to learn along side your wife. You don't get the degree that way, but at least the knowledge is free. And your wife might like it, as a plus.
