Shortly after I started a job, I noticed that we had large spikes in our traffic stats. Updates would be sent to customers for various pieces of data on a regular basis. They have previously implemented a simple form of incremental updates, but because of the way it was implemented, it would periodically have to send all of the data again. This was happening about once day. The spikes were often enough to push the 95th percentile up to an absurd amount. I spent a few days making some changes to make all updates incremental and ended up saving the company about $50k/mo in bandwidth charges.
