It is interesting to me how much attention the media pays to the rise of the AfD, while they basically ignore a similar rise of the Grune (Greens) party in the last two state elections. You can see the swing against the two major parties and towards the AfD and Grune in both[0][1] (scroll down to the second graph "Gewinne und verlust").

- maze-le 8y agoThis has much to do with the transformation of the Green party. The greens are no longer a leftist radical force of a eco-revolution, like they were in the 80ies. I personally know a few people who are conservative, have had enough of the CDU after 14y Merkel, and would never vote for the reactionary bufoons of the AFD. These are exactly the parts of the poulation who vote Green nowdays. And as a sidenote, I personally think that Green ideology and conservatism are not neccessary conrtadicting. If you have kids and would like them to live on a planet that is still habitable, the Green party is a very sensible choice.
