That's not a good comparison because many Linux advocates still have to use Windows and/or MacOS so they do know how it feels.
For example, I used MacOS in my last job and Windows 10 in my current job and I still prefer to use Fedora Workstation. In addition to that, my experience with MacOS and Windows 10 showed me where Linux could improve (except software selection which is a hard problem to solve)
