From the article: "... the same model he has idling outside with a driver, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, wherever he is in the world."
What? He has someone sitting outside in a running car while he sleeps? If true, that's remarkably stupid.
- psychometry 8y agoIf it's to Peter Thiel's benefit and his benefit alone to do something, he will assuredly do it. What's best for other people, society, the environment, etc., doesn't ever factor into his calculus.
- noir_lord 8y agoHe does certainly give that impression, nothing I've ever read about him has given me another.
- sifoobar 8y agoThe guy supposedly buys blood from healthy 20-somethings and injects it in an attempt to steal some of their youth. Where do you go from there? He clearly doesn't give a shit about anything except me, me, me and me.
- meowface 8y agoIf I had a ton of money and I thought the procedure were safe and effective, I'd do the same. The 20-somethings get some money, the billionaire gets to live a potentially longer and healthier life. Seems like a win-win to me.
- sifoobar 8y agoThe same "logic" could just as well be applied to prostitution. What is it about your life that's worth more than theirs? A pile of money? And wouldn't that blood do more good in a blood bank where it could help people who actually need help? I'm pretty sure that if they had enough money, they rather wouldn't go through with this. Doesn't taking advantage of less fortunate humans bother you at all?
- meowface 8y agoWho is being taken advantage of in this scenario? The blood donors get money, and they only have to donate a little bit of blood each, so they aren't jeopardizing their own health. The billionaire potentially gets to live longer. The terms of the transaction are very transparent to both parties. Blood donation is an easy way to make some money. People do it all the time when donating to blood banks. It's not just people lacking money who do it.
- voisin 8y agoThis is common among the ultra-elite. If there is a threat, their security literally carries them to an idling car, throws them in and it drives off. Can’t risk the car not starting I guess. I’ve read this in multiple locations but usually related to people like the POTUS or the Pope. It doesn’t surprise me that multi-billionaires do this too.
