I could not disagree with you more. The Republican party is not a far-right extremist party, the Republican party is an extremely confused and poorly defined cooperative between conservatives and liberals. The Democratic party, on the other hand, is increasingly radicalizing and unifying in favor of socialized policies.
I think that the American left wing is far more unified and further left as a collective than the heavily fragmented and incoherent right wing. American liberals have effectively been excommunicated from the left wing, and as such are beginning to represent a sort of tentative alliance with the conservatives in opposition to the Democratic party.
TL;DR, I think the Democratic party is more cohesive and further left than the highly polarized Republican party is right.
- jhbadger 8y agoIt really isn't. Mainstream Democrats like Pelosi and Schumer actively work against the more radical Democrats (sabotaging Bernie in the last primary) and are into big business and banking nearly as much as Republicans are. That's why the Democratic Socialists of America exist -- right now as a group within the Democratic Party, but conceivably as their own party in the future.
- jki275 8y agoPutting aside the fact that Bernie isn't a democrat... Most of those in government (just to make abundantly clear I mean both parties here) are there because they want power and money, not because they have principles.
- pluma 8y agoThe worst the Republicans have to offer are Christian extremists, militarists who openly call for civilians being murdered, literal nazis, people who send mail bombs to politicians, conspiracy theorists concerned about soy who pester grieving parents, people who run cars into counter-protestors, people who beat up people who look different, the Alt Right and people who want to suppress others for their gender, sexuality, ethnicity or religion. The worst the Democrats have to offer are a bunch of Socialists who want public healthcare and free tuition. Oh, and I guess the specter that is Antifa, the loosely defined group of people who occasionally set cars on fire, smash storefronts and punch nazis. Yes, both sides are totally comparable. I can't for the life of me figure out why anyone would think there's a moral difference between the side with people who are planning a literal ethnic cleansing and the side that punches those people to make them stop. EDIT: Oh, and if the "liberals" prefer siding with the side that has nazis over siding with the evil socialists, that tells you a lot more about the actual values of "liberals" than it does about the Democrats.
