Ask HN: Has Google released a public post-mortem for Oct. YouTube outage yet?
If they have not, maybe an insider could tell us if they are planning to release one?
I've tried googling for one, but all I find is youtube videos of dead guys being cut up (not my cup of tea, apparently).
- sophiebits 8y agoMost companies don’t release outage postmortems for consumer-facing products.
- jjeaff 8y agoAt least, not usually for free products.
- k0t0n0 8y agoit's not free. people work for YouTube full time.
- Jeremy1026 8y agoThis argument make zero sense. Facebook has thousands of full time employees, but their platform is free. (Arguably, you are the product, but thats not the argument being made here.)
- tehwebguy 8y agoI think they’re referring to YouTube content creators
- AznHisoka 8y agoYoutube TV is not free and had the same outage. They did issue a partial refund for customers though
- jklein11 8y agoYoutube isn't free for advertisers were presumably without service(i.e their ads weren't being shown) while there was an outage. I would imagine they also weren't being charged during that time due to being charged per impression. That is actually a really interesting point. I wonder if google actually has any SLA's around the availability of their platform.
- OnlyRepliesToBS 8y agojust good ones
- plibither8 8y agoGitHub released a very detailed and thorough post-mortem report on their recent, 24-hour degradation of service: https://blog.github.com/2018-10-30-oct21-post-incident-analysis/ https://blog.github.com/2018-10-30-oct21-post-incident-analy... This is one of the reasons I love GitHub
