I've written about this before (https://www.bitquabit.com/post/zombie-operating-systems-and-aspnet-mvc/ https://www.bitquabit.com/post/zombie-operating-systems-and-... ); we had to work around this on Kiln back in ~2010, because it meant that Unix users couldn't even access files named things like "aux.h" that were stored in their Mercurial repositories.
That said, I had an error in that original post which this weirdly replicates: CP/M doesn't actually have quite this same error, because these names show up through the PIP command, IIRC. I really want to link to the correction, but I can't find someone telling me what the actual correction is from the last time that got posted.
