Can you give one example of the left being antisemitic? (no, saying "let's try to not hate on Muslims so much" isn't an example of antisemitism).

- MrZongle2 8y agoHere's an interesting article discussing it: http://thefederalist.com/2018/04/06/why-does-the-left-get-a-pass-on-anti-semitism/ http://thefederalist.com/2018/04/06/why-does-the-left-get-a-...
- honkycat 8y agoGreat job posting a nut-job shill publication. They have a lot of interesting articles: - The Democratic Party Is Working To Destroy The American Way Of Life - ‘I’m Pro-Life But Wouldn’t Outlaw Abortion’ Parallels Stephen Douglas’s Argument For Slavery - New Evidence Suggests Planned Parenthood Lied To Congress About Aborted Baby Part Profits They sound really "Fair and Balanced"
- dx87 8y agoNot vouching for the linked article, but "fair and balanced" isn't a requirement to post here. Vox and Vice are both openly liberal publications that are regularly posted here. If you have specific disagreements, comment on them. Calling something a "nut-job shill publication" isn't productive.
- honkycat 8y agoI was making a joke about how it is a very conservative publication. "Fair and Balanced" was Fox News' motto for a long time. Not that being conservative invalidates everything contained on the blog. But, you can find blogs who claim our government is controlled by shape-shifting lizard people on the internet, so a single article from a biased source isn't a strong argument and having an article titled: "The Democratic Party Is Working To Destroy The American Way Of Life" is pretty telling.

- moate 8y agoHow about this: The source used is generally considered to warp the truth to suit its own narrative. Both Vox and Vice are widely considered fair, but tend to publish articles that would be of interest to there leftist audience. This source is not credible, more in line with Jacobin or Daily Kos. https://www.adfontesmedia.com/intro-to-the-media-bias-chart/ https://www.adfontesmedia.com/intro-to-the-media-bias-chart/
- kevin_thibedeau 8y agoThat's all just a bunch unsubstantiated statements constructed to suit the author's bias.
- hnbroseph 8y agoso you're saying "that's just, like, your opinion"
- moate 8y agoThe article itself mentions that the 2 examples it gives to state its premise were both "rightfully brushed off as raving lunatics." Everyone agrees being an anti-semite is bad. The fact that people like Farrahkahn sit on the left doesn't mean all people on the left agree with those views. It doesn't mean they get a free pass. It's sorta how people on the right really hate it when you say "everyone who voted from Trump is a Nazi". This seems to be very much mock outrage and false equivalencies.
- burfog 8y agoFarrakahn hasn't been rejected. You can find photos of him with Obama, the Clintons, and various high-level DNC people. Farrakhan got to visit the Whitehouse during the Obama administration. The anti-semites on the right have been rejected by the rest of the right. Perhaps we can consider David Duke to be on the right, but you won't find him at the Whitehouse. He has been solidly rejected.
- virmundi 8y agoIf your source is not HuffPo, Vice, or Buzzfeed please don’t waste our time. Your source cannot be viable journalism, nor an OpEd producer unless it is similarly align with these fine publications.
- onemoresoop 8y agohere's David Harsanyi, the author of the article wikipedia page: Harsanyi is a nationally syndicated columnist and senior editor at The Federalist. He is a former editor of Human Events and opinion columnist at The Denver Post.[1] His writings on politics and culture have appeared in The Wall Street Journal, Weekly Standard, Washington Post, National Review, Reason, Christian Science Monitor, Jerusalem Post, The Globe and Mail, The Hill, Sports Illustrated Online, and other publications.[2] A libertarian,[3] his column is nationally syndicated by Creators Syndicate. He is author of The People Have Spoken (and They Are Wrong): The Case Against Democracy, Obama's Four Horsemen: The Disasters Unleashed by Obama's Reelection and Nanny State: How Food Fascists, Teetotaling Do-Gooders, Priggish Moralists, and other Boneheaded Bureaucrats are Turning America into a Nation of Children.[2] He left his position writing op-eds for The Denver Post to work for TheBlaze.[4]
- hcg 8y agoFirst off, I just want to point out that the federalist is an extremely biased source. That doesn't make their arguments wrong, just biased. Second, there are anti-Semitic behaviors by people across the political spectrum. The far right is, mostly, worse. Large numbers subscribe to extremely racist theories and people do outright call for the extermination of the jews. Third, the right likes to connect anti-Zionism or opposition to the current government of Israel to anti-Semitism. This is ridiculous. The behavior of the current government of Israel has been criticized, to varying degrees, by every other government on Earth. The left (not liberals, the actual left) largely sees the government as nearly fascist and pushing the idea of an ethnostate. That's not because everyone on the left hates Jewish people, it's because Israel's policies support that idea. The right pushes the idea that Israel is America's closest ally, that you need to support Israel unconditionally, that we should have laws against movements like BDS, and that if you criticize Israel it's anti-Semitic.
- DanBC 8y agoHere's one example from the UK: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-46070229 https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-46070229 All UK parties have problems of anti-Semitism and Islamophobia.
- gowld 8y agoMajor left-wing activism leaders Linda Sarsour, Tamika Mallory, and Carmen Perez are proud, longstanding supporters of Louis Farrakhan and his hate-group "Nation Of Islam" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nation_of_Islam_and_antisemitism https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nation_of_Islam_and_antisemiti... https://forward.com/opinion/396003/linda-sarsour-has-been-a-farrakhan-fan-for-years/ https://forward.com/opinion/396003/linda-sarsour-has-been-a-...
- stevenwoo 8y agoThere was controversy (still is?) about the Labour party refusing to adapt the IHRA definition of antisemitism because some interpretations think it means criticism of the state of Israel is always antisemitic. That's true in America as well when people don't fall in line with 100% support financially by the USA federal government for whatever Israel does. https://www.jewishvoiceforlabour.org.uk/blog/a-briefing-document-on-the-ihra-definition-of-antisemitism/ https://www.jewishvoiceforlabour.org.uk/blog/a-briefing-docu...
