I only buy .coms, which means I have to be very creative in thinking up names. This on its own is a good throttle on buying names. Lately, I've been toying with the idea of using subdomains from http://freedns.afraid.org/ http://freedns.afraid.org/ to host small projects that don't warrent a domain name. I do wonder what this would do to search rank though.
