>argument against the idea to privitize everything
Go to a different company next time?
If the government denies your paperwork, you get to keep working with the same government.
- crdoconnor 8y agoComplaining to a congressperson is usually more effective than complaining to a monopoly/oligopoly like Comcast.
- TylerE 8y agoNo it isn't, because Comcast has all the congresscritters bought and paid for, or at least enough of them to prevent anything it doesn't like from actually getting passed. https://www.opensecrets.org https://www.opensecrets.org
- azinman2 8y agoDepends on what you're complaining about. If you're complaining about your own individual experience and being wronged (versus something where the law needs to be changed), then often local representatives can surprisingly get things done.
- azinman2 8y agoRight.. except most of the time I don’t have a choice for internet, power, garbage, etc. So much of infrastructure and basic services are regional (for a variety of reasons) that you don’t have this infinite choice. Often even if you do have “choice,” it’s a few equally bad options. When startup cost to challenge is so high, and the switching cost means most people won’t, the idea that anyone would just break into the market falls flat. Add non-accountability, and there’s no recourse. At least with the government, they cannot legally prioritize one person over another, and there exists judicial recourse.
