Are you implying that government, local or national, is "accountable" or "fair" somehow? All of human experience demonstrates the opposite.

Are you implying that government, local or national, is "accountable" or "fair" somehow? All of human experience demonstrates the opposite.
- gumby 8y ago> All of human experience demonstrates the opposite. That's an absurd exaggeration.
- DiffEq 8y agoEqual to OP's absurd argument for less privatization.
- lostmyoldone 8y agoNot all human experience. There are certainly countries where government is considered to be - on average - rather fair.
- bjelkeman-again 8y agoMost (all?) Northern European countries strive hard to achieve that fairness and are reasonably successful in doing so.
- mfringel 8y agoCan you restate your assertion in a way that can not be trivially torpedoed by a single existence proof?
- DiffEq 8y agoThere is no need. OP seems to imply that there is some kind of inherent fairness built into human governments; as if they are outside the influence of human nature. My assertion contains all of human history; within each of those governments one can find some form of injustice or lack of fairness. OP thinks government it a solution to the woes of privatization - even a casual look at the world and at history will show that neither has given us what we seek.
- mfringel 8y agoYou used a universal quantifier in your initial statement. That is, all of human history, implying all governments at all times. This is trivially falsifiable. With your current statement, you're attempting to modify that to all governments in human history, at a single point in time for each of them. In the most charitable case, that's vacuously true. You chose the hill you wanted to defend... it's a bit late to complain about the location. The question stands.
- DiffEq 8y agoSo if it is so trivially falsifiable...please provide the trivial evidence.
- mfringel 8y agoYou first. You've already proved you're willing to move the goalposts once. I've not moved mine at all. Clearly, it should be much easier for you to prove something to me. The original question stands, and remains unanswered.
- DiffEq 8y agoYou have learned to use big words and have taken a logic course perhaps...but have learned nothing. I have not moved the goal posts, I have stated several things about human history/governments that are as apparent as the sky is blue. OP being the pot was calling the kettle black. You are saying that the pot is not black, I asked you to show where it is not, you refuse - because you can't.
- mfringel 8y agoRight now, as I look out my window, the sky is grey. So, since you made another assertion, how is what you stated about human governments and history as apparent as the sky is blue? That's two hills to defend, and two questions unanswered.
