This is using a 8th generation chip. Since the 9th gen chips are drop-in compatible, does this mean you can hack your way to a Mac Mini with an i9-9900k 8-core/12-thread monster?
- joecool1029 8y agoProbably not. This is 2018 and everything gets soldered down now.
- TwoNineA 8y agoThey are probably laptop CPUs, 45 watt version, different socket.
- stephenr 8y agoI believe he said expressly that they're higher-power desktop CPUS (reference that the older model used mobile ones).
- douglasfshearer 8y agoCPUs available are: * Core i3-8100 [0] * Core i5-8500 [1] * Core i7-8700 [2] All of these are listed as having embedded version available, which I would expect Apple to be using, since embedded versions of desktop SKUs in the iMac.
