My children are allowed to play on Fire tablets only during car trips, and only until the battery runs dry. The funny thing is, all the games stop working in between uses -- they expect to be able to phone home frequently, and most of the time they're on, they're not connected to the internet. So every long trip is preceded by a cycle of tablet charging and installing new games. When one of my kids asked me why we had to do this, I explained that we were able to get these tablets so cheap because Amazon and the game publishers get to be in control of what's on there. This led to an interesting conversation about the difference between tablets and laptops, and why Frozen Bubble and Tux Paint never stop working. The game content is basically all branded characters.
