The implicit context is that we are talking about fields that need to understand programming at a low level: Computer Science, Computer engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical engineering. There is no point in a Chemical Engineer programming in asm. Just throw some python and R at him so he understands the basic concepts. But for the fields that need to understand computers at a low level, I would expect enthusiasm from the student to understand how it all works.
