Technology evolves. As it evolves, it becomes more sophisticated and the roles themselves become more specialised. Twenty years ago you could have a designer writing simple HTML/CSS pages and then a Java developer filling in the functionality with JSP pages. Today, the advent of sophisticated frameworks like React, and the browser becoming a highly capable development platform, it makes perfect sense to identify a separation of design-oriented UI/UX developer roles who are presentation experts and more engineering-oriented devs who focus on immutable state stores, app architecture, API design, implementation performance, testing, etc. We really need good names for these two roles.
