I had a startup attempting to build a Windows shell. It’s no longer possible. You could do it with 7 with some very clever work. Geohot came on around the time Win8 was in beta and figured out some extremely clever ways to make it work on that. But by 8.1 a few key elements to make a decent shell became signed functions and you’d have to perpetually hack the UWA sandbox which is not feasible.
- vbezhenar 8y agoWhat is sandbox? Are you talking about distributing shell via Windows Store? I don't understand what is signed function.
- jordanthoms 8y agoI don't know anything about this space, but it looks like Cairoshell ( https://github.com/cairoshell/cairoshell/releases https://github.com/cairoshell/cairoshell/releases ) works on Windows 10?
