What a strange end-goal. I'm not sure why you would want to "reauthor" a DVD or a Blu-Ray, as their contents are much more convenient once you've ripped and transcoded them. The difficulty he encountered doesn't sound like a good reason at all to buy DVDs instead. I have roughly 200 Blu-Rays in my collection, and I've watched maybe one or two of them in an actual Blu-Ray player.
