  I'm using a wildcard certificate too for several reasons. The main reason being: if you want to test your code on a real device (iOS and Android simulators included), a simple self-signed certificate won't do the job. But with a Let's Encrypt wildcard certificate and a dnsmasq wildcard domain mapping on the local router DNS server, it all works like a charm.
