While I hate current implemetnation of regular voice call, I don't know if this is the solution.
First, with Facetime, that's only if you can assume everyone is on iOS/macOS.
Same goes for any apps, however.
It's just tough to agree on one app; if you have group of 20, chances are one or two refuse to install or can't install that app.
At least with regular cell phone call, that's less of the problem.
