- egypturnash 8y agoIt's far enough along that they're actively pushing it at people who update their WP installations. There's a big banner on the front of the dashboard urging you to try the FUTURE OF WORDPRESS. I did. I went back to the old ways.
- kkoppenhaver 8y agoThe 1st beta of WordPress 5.0 was released today (which includes Gutenberg). Outside of discovering any major blockers, the current plan is to release 5.0 on November 19.
- Tallain 8y ago3.5 weeks feels awfully short to go from beta to production on a change so big. Isn't Gutenberg going to be the new default, no opt-out? Kind of makes me nervous.
- kkoppenhaver 8y agoYou can still opt-out by installing the Classic Editor plugin[1]. That will disable Gutenberg and let you keep the current experience. [1]https://wordpress.org/plugins/classic-editor/ https://wordpress.org/plugins/classic-editor/
- Tallain 8y agoBeautiful! Also, that makes perfect sense. Thank you for the link!
- frereubu 8y agoThere's also this plugin which removes all other references to Gutenberg so if you're building sites for clients they aren't able to accidentally switch the classic editor off, and don't get nag screens about trying Gutenberg. https://wordpress.org/plugins/classic-editor-addon/ https://wordpress.org/plugins/classic-editor-addon/
- PuffinBlue 8y agoThere's been a stand alone plugin activating the Gutenberg editor out for ages now. You can install it and test how things work right now in 4.9.8 or whatever version you're running. So this 3.5 weeks thing is a bit of a distraction. https://en-gb.wordpress.org/plugins/gutenberg/ https://en-gb.wordpress.org/plugins/gutenberg/
- lucideer 8y agoI'm not sure about 5.0, but in 4.x, using the Gutenberg plugin, you can embed instances of the Classic Editor within Gutenberg blocks.
- lucideer 8y agoAs well as the first 5.0 beta, Gutenberg has also started to show up on the Dashboard as a prominently promoted optional recommended plugin upgrade for 4.x installs sometime recently (I noticed earlier this week and installed it to trial it immediately). I'm guessing that Dashboard push may have motivated this being posted here.
