I, for one, welcome our new Arch Overlord. I kind of agree with him. But I bet he wrapped his "select count(*) from ..." in some sort of function like get_row_count(table). Add a few more and before you know it, you're half way to a new framework that concatentates HTML fragments built from SQL queries.
