Ask HN: What's the grandparent friendly online password security solution?

A friend's grandparent sent me a scary sounding email. Basically their password was in a public breach. I'd want to recommend 1password to them but I know them and I know that it will unfortunately be too complex. What's the basic version for people, that sacrifices some security for much more usability? A physical notebook of passwords with photo backups on their phone?
