I think the downvotes are because people might consider this off topic. Though, realistically the damage has already been done. It no longer matters if your SSN is stolen. A very sizable percentage of adults above a certain age already have this data purchasable for $10 a pop. A credit freeze is your best option against identity theft. I think we need to rethink SSNs being used in the way they are today. They were never designed to be your national identity number. We can do better.
