The Death of the First Amendment in Cyberspace
- elocinstr8t 8y ago"In a prevailing atmosphere of anxiety, digital promised land has turned into a dystopia of surveillance, disinformation, trolling, and hatred." The problem with social media is that because of its anonymity, it became so easy to spread false information and hatred by trolling, even though 95% of those trolls probably can't face the person they're bullying online in person. But you know what they said, as the technology keeps advancing, so is our privacy going away little by little.
- bediger4000 8y agoThis is precisely what Mike Masnick & Co over at techdirt.com have been saying for years. Free speech advocates warned us about this in the 80s, when the US deregulated TV station and newspaper ownership. I seem to recall that back then it was not a 1st Amendment issue because corporations and not the government were doing it. What's different today? The quillette.com article fails to recognize history and address that issue. 2/7, would not read again.
