I think it's very on topic - connector mounting and robustness is important. BNC connectors hit a great sweet-spot of being cheap and easily available for bulkhead mounting. I've used them for power in data loggers before, since they're positive locking. Felt a bit dirty, but just pretended I was in a research lab where BNC for DC power is very common.
