HN even has brigaders now. Its really pathetic. dang you have let this go to shit, I don't really care if you ban my account for saying so either.
- mberning 8y agoI agree, and the political items that managed to not be flagged to hell are highly biased. If I wanted to see this kind of stuff I could easily find it elsewhere. I really wish there was a "nothing even remotely political" policy on HN. At least then it would be fair.
- _emacsomancer_ 8y agoI would assume people of most political bents would be against corruption.
- claydavisss 8y agoLessig's views are political opinions and nothing more. His use of the term "corruption" is conjecture, plain and simple.
- _emacsomancer_ 8y ago> His use of the term "corruption" is conjecture, plain and simple. I suppose people in certain positions would have to be of this view, for their internal sanity.
- FlyMoreRockets 8y agoThat would be a logical assumption, wouldn't it.
- lemoncucumber 8y agoUnfortunately laws and regulations affect tech, so it seems unavoidable to discuss them here. Whether it’s net neutrality, IP law, GDPR, or what have you, there are worthwhile discussions to have about how laws affect tech and how they could be better. I’d much rather have those discussions with people who understand technology well. People who don’t understand tech well have demonstrated that they will pass deeply flawed laws like the DMCA thanks in part to their lack of understanding (in addition to corruption of the political process).
- claydavisss 8y agoLessig isn't addressing any of those. He's simply lambasting a group of economists with whom he stridently disagrees.
- lemoncucumber 8y agoYou were complaining about HN "becoming a political message board," which I took to mean you didn't want to see any posts relating to politics here. Also, as I recall Lessig's work used to focus on copyright and intellectual property, and it was his experience trying to advocate for sensible reforms to those laws that led him to shift his focus towards what he terms the "corruption" that allow the Disneys and Comcasts of the world to force through bad laws like the DMCA (or repealing net neutrality) and block more sensible laws and regulations. So there is a line from this post back towards tech-related law issues.
- dang 8y agoPeople have been saying that for a long time now: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1934367 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1934367 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=6157485 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=6157485 There has always been a mix of political stories here. pg's criterion was that they were ok as long as they were intellectually interesting and not only about politics.
