I don't understand the purpose of this. I hope it's an elaborate joke, but it is surprisingly unprofessional.
A few years ago I spent some time in their dev mailing list and proposed a patch. I doubt I'd still do this in this context. This code of conduct that requires members to honor th Christ, even as a joke, would make me reluctant to interact with SQLite.
- lsd5you 8y agoYes, but when did professionalism become a requirement for open source software?
- thrower123 8y agoIt was a disqualification once upon a time, or at least a severe black mark to atone for.
- drivingmenuts 8y ago> Yes, but when did professionalism become a requirement for open source software? About the point where a third developer joined a project. One person can slag himself all day long and it's just crazy muttering. Two people can slag each other all day long and it's he said/she said or some combination thereof. Three people ... dammit, there's a witness.
- roguecoder 8y agoWhen people started having both standards and options. I can choose between a college frathouse and a productive guild hall: why would I live in a frathouse?
- lsd5you 8y agoIndeed. Choose away. Of course in the end you choose the one with functioning plumbing.
- HarryHirsch 8y agorequires members to honor the Christ The text does not permit this interpretation.
- chippy 8y ago> This code of conduct that requires members to honor Christ Does it? It says that it requires developers to conduct themselves in a manner that honors the overarching spirit of the rule.
- gonvaled 8y agoWell, it mentions Christ 4 times ...
- mikeash 8y agoThe overarching spirit of the rule is worship of a particular deity. “First of all, love the Lord God with your whole heart, your whole soul, and your whole strength.”
- drb91 8y agoOnly if you are looking for it. I imagine most adults can translate through time and culture without much issue. Literalists tend to be evangelical christians, who probably wouldn’t mind.
- mikeash 8y agoIt hammers you on the head with it at the very beginning. There’s no need to “look for it,” it’s right there.
- Cthulhu_ 8y agoPoe's Law in action.
- on_and_off 8y agoIt looks like the author is exactly the kind of people that made CoC necessary.
