Has this happened before? How can we learn more about this phenomenon by looking at history? To me this is an entirely new phenomenon.
- Alex3917 8y agoWell you've got cities like Miami and Providence which were built with cocaine money, cities like Havana and pretty much all of the Netherlands that were built with money from the slave trade, etc. Not really new. And then you've got places like New York where a large percentage of the money coming in has always been from illicit or semi-licit activities, but never so much that it was the overwhelming majority of the economy at any given point.
