If it's only a software update, when most of ML efforts are open sourced, I don't see why I can't install my own solution.

- hartator 8y agocomma.ai seemed safe, technically is no different in term of softwares used. Tesla auto-pilot did kill more than 10 people now. Why pay for something that might be inferior than the free one?
