Google Drive converts HTML pages to Word on download

I have just discovered this today and it is absolutely annoying. I uploaded a project folder to Google Drive which contained css, js and an index.html files. I tried to download the project today. Drive zipped it and downloaded it. I opened it, and bang! no html file. The index.html file is now an index.docx file. Absolutely atrocious. You can't even convert it back to the original html. I tried downloading the index.html file on its own and lo and behold in the bottom left corner of my screen it says "Converting to Word". I am on a secure machine and can't install their bullshit memory hogging desktop client either. Which means, I can't work. Has anyone else dealt with this nonsense?
