I look at it from a different perspective.
If the Federal Government would limit loans to a set amount per course credit you can rest assure schools would scramble to have offerings that fit within the guidelines.
there seems to be little issue with forcing health care prices upon those who provide the services so the same should be done for education. simply weight the course and apply costs appropriate. this could be used to encourage certain skill sets over others.
The truth is, it was known the debt crisis was going to explode once the Federal Government got involved. Same happened to education as a whole let alone health care
- Spooky23 8y agoThose type of controls are a big contributor to the health care price crisis. I’d suggest going back to the 90s model of having rate capped subsidized and partially subsidized loans, and eliminating the bankruptcy exclusion for student debt outside of that framework. If the law makes a debt non-dischargable, the risk premium should be very low. The problem is that reducing the firehose of capital would drive many universities out of business. They have 30 year bonds for luxury dorms and fitness centers to pay off.

- pc86 8y agoLuckily, you don't get to check off the boxes of what you're willing to pay for when you pay your taxes. You can vote for people who support this idea but it is a fringe idea at best and not one you're likely to find much support for outside of radical circles. Federally subsidized student loans, for all their (many) faults, are an obvious net benefit to society.
