Stolen? The data is secure - keys are stored in secure enclave, and storage is encrypted.
Down? There's continuity of service if you have a 2nd box online, and it's as easy to restore from a live backup as an iPhone from iCloud.
Email is the first app, and there will be more.
- latentpot 8y agoWhy do I need to buy a physical box? Cant they give me a dedicated EC2 Micro instance instead? Solve the ISP issue, and the speed/ connectivity/ power etc?
- OJFord 8y agoIt's easier to convince someone that it's securely 'theirs' with hardware than if it seems like just another cloud email service?
- the_common_man 8y agoBut then they spend a lot of time being a hardware company, no?
- bostonvaulter2 8y agoSo? It's a necessity of establishing trust with the customers.
- latentpot 8y agoHow about a VM that I can host at a location of my choice? On prem, ec2, or a dedi somewhere?
- chris_mc 8y ago>if you have a 2nd box online For $1000 I get 2 boxes I can't use for anything else right now (and still not very reliable inside my home), whereas with Fastmail (for example) I can get an email service for 20 years @ $50/yr that is very reliable. I'm not sure of the value proposition for this thing.
