The Beauty of Programming (2001)
- ericfrederich 8y agoComic Sans? ... and before you downvote me, ask yourself.. "did I immediately think the same thing?"
- LiterallyDoge 8y agoI think it fits with his current phase of wanting to explore his human side.
- hereiskkb 8y agoYesss!! What the hell! Comic sans!!
- rbranson 8y agoMaybe it’s supposed to be ironic given the title.
- snazz 8y agoI had no idea Comic Sans had ligatures (see the top of page 2 for the fi)
- cannam 8y agoIt isn't Comic Sans - the lower-case m is wrong. Comic Sans has a very jaunty and distinctive lower-case m. I don't know what this actually is, perhaps some open-source stand-in. For some reason I haven't thoroughly researched replacements for Comic Sans. Looks like the link has changed now anyway, so this is disappointingly moot.

- Koshkin 8y agoCome on, the text is pretty easy on the eye, like a neat hand-print; also, this makes the text look less "formal" (indeed, I have noticed that the way I feel about a text sometimes depends on the style or format it is presented in).
- codetrotter 8y agoI agree, I much preferred https://www.bowdoin.edu/~ltoma/teaching/beautyOfProgramming.pdf https://www.bowdoin.edu/~ltoma/teaching/beautyOfProgramming....
- picsao 8y agoI sometimes am glad that all established structures with power are taken over by "be nice" parasites. It drives the likes of Linus ever onwards towards bigger and better things.
- enthd 8y agoThe PDF is in Comic Sans so I've also included another link to the paper that doesn't use Comic Sans https://www.brynmawr.edu/cs/resources/beauty-of-programming https://www.brynmawr.edu/cs/resources/beauty-of-programming
- dang 8y agoOk, we've changed to that from https://www.bowdoin.edu/~ltoma/teaching/beautyOfProgramming.pdf https://www.bowdoin.edu/~ltoma/teaching/beautyOfProgramming.....

- sandov 8y agoHow did Linus --or whoever generated that pdf-- think that comic sans was a sane font choice for the article?
- js8 8y agoThis is what I love about programming - it is never boring! If it is boring, you can automate the boring parts, which becomes interesting as a goal.
- niceperson 8y agoI forgot Comic Sans existed.
- chilledheat 8y agoOne of the reasons people have become so enamored with computers is that they enable you to experience new worlds you can create, and to learn what’s possible. Could not have written it better myself.
