The starving children in Yemen weren't enough?
- anon7429 8y agoOr dropping cluster bombs on towns to depopulate them with the bonus of UXO submunitions that don't explode until some kid picks them up. America is the greatest exporter of death, misery and genocide while pretending everything is fine.
- johntiger1 8y agoLast line is a little uncalled for. If the US didn't export arms the Saudis would just buy from China or Russia
- Waterluvian 8y agoThis is a universally bullshit excuse. I'm amazed people still utter it.
- eloff 8y agoSeems like the truth, not an excuse.
- solidsnack9000 8y agoIf not exporting the arms wouldn't make a difference, it won't make a difference. Modern weapons systems are very complicated and most importers require a continued dialogue with the exporting country -- with technical staff but also officials of various kinds -- to be able to keep things working. This allows the arms exporting country to maintain political influence and leverage. In an environment where other, hostile exporters would be happy to take one's place, maintaining that influence is an important practical concern.
- dang 8y agoMaybe so, but please don't post unsubstantive comments here. Especially not on inflammatory topics, where a comment like this one is guaranteed to be destructive. The site guidelines say: "Comments should get more civil and substantive, not less, as a topic gets more divisive." They also ask you to avoid flamebait. https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html
- craftyguy 8y agoNope, apparently they were not enough.
- dilap 8y agoNope; neither was bombing a school bus full of children. Weird, huh?
