For me a far bigger irritation in Java is Design Pattern abuse. It makes code far more unreadable than any macro code I've seen so far. Its a big like what Larry Wall talks about code complexity(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waterbed_theory https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waterbed_theory). Basically if say a language X provides in built feature to do complex task Y, and it a little hard to understand. In another language Z which lacks the feature, the code that one has to write to achieve Y will be equally complicated and hard if not more.
