I have been a strong advocate for spreading this fact to both my direct reports and to my colleagues. I will never discuss other people’s salary (especially my directs’, that’s against company policy) but I will discuss my salary and encourage others to do the same. If the guy next to you is making 1.x times your salary and you think he’s dead weight, time to discuss it with your boss or move on. You have to be your own advocate, and you’re actively hindering others from being their own advocates if you keep to that anti-union, salary secrecy bullshit.
