I'm kind of baffled by the number of people here defending this. I can only imagine that Americans have an emotional investment in their military that inclines them to overlook waste that they would never tolerate in any other area.
- mmmmmmmmm 8y agoI'm kind of baffled by the number of people here opposing investment in technological advancements. You'd think hacker news of all places would understand the risks inherent in investing in an any sort of state-of-the-art technological project. Not all projects are going to succeed; but that doesn't mean we shouldn't try. It seems the real reason these people are angry is because they hate how strong the US military is. You know they don't actually care about the wasted money because they're also the same people who think we should be spending billions of dollars a year on state-funded healthcare to keep octogenarians alive a year longer.
- barrow-rider 8y ago> I'm kind of baffled by the number of people here defending this With literally trillions of dollars at stake, why wouldn't defense contractors set up "marketing" teams to defend it? And the post above: "adversaries are posting about how bad it is to run support for it" -- a perfect dodge. If you're not supporting this gigantic fucking money pit then you're clearly in league with the enemy.
