It's worth noting that this was introduced by Republicans. Obviously, any action that increases the cost of electric vehicles in relation to gas vehicles is a fucking stupid thing to do, regardless of "well... this is for road maintenance". They can tax EVs for road maintenance when they start taxing gas vehicles for damage to environment. (As a side note, heavy trucks account for almost ALL wear and tear on roads. Your average Prius isn't exactly known for eating up asphalt with its snow chains.)
