This is why I always try to accept people's first contributions, even if it means reworking them to fit (I usually just do it if it's trivial, or give guidance and offer to do it if not). I have generally had really great responses when I've sent drive-by tweaks to other FOSS projects, so I feel obliged to pay that forward to others.
